We have here a case of three bottles each of the 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 vintages. A truly superb case for lovers of Châteauneuf. Beaucastel is one of only three of the Châteauneuf estates to use all thirteen permitted varieties. The Perrin family have been farming the Beaucastel vineyards organically for three generations, and yields are remarkably small.

We were the first to beat a path to Miguel Roquette's ex-Roman fort ('castrum'), high above the Douro. In 1994 he sagely drafted in Australia's David Baverstock (top consultant and winemaker to Sir Cliff) who forged a cast-iron plan for realising the potential of Crasto's centuries-old vineyards. This wine is a blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Meunier which has been left on its lees for four and a half years. It is matured in the cellar for a further 3 months to give complex aromas and flavours.

When looking for a Crozes Hermitage for the new Adnams Cellar Selection range, the Ferratons' wines were included in the tasting and came out top. Further tastings from their range yielded wines we felt unable to resist - and they are put together in this case.
